The Bright Movement

I call myself a Bright.  So what does that mean.

It's like calling yourself Gay.  It's a way to redirect the way people perceive an oppressed subgroup.  Unless you live in a cave, and even then, you know that Gay refers to homosexual people.  Brights is like that, except we are Humanists.

We do have a web page you can visit for a detailed look at us:  http://www.the-brights.net/

If you don't want to jump to that page, let me briefly summarize here:

A Bright is a person:
  • with a naturalistic worldview
  • whose worldview is free of supernatural bits
  • whose ethics and morality derive from our naturalistic worldview
My bullet points are very nearly identical to those on the link above.  The organization of Brights have goals, which I directly copied from the link above - to:
  1. Promote the civic understanding and acknowledgment of the naturalistic worldview, which is free of supernatural and mystical elements.
  2. Gain public recognition that persons who hold such a worldview can bring principled actions to bear on matters of civic importance.
  3. Educate society toward accepting the full and equitable civic participation of all such individuals.
So now you know what a Bright is.
